Day 14, November 14

I am thankful for a hubby who works hard to provide for our family.

He does his job with a good attitude and a determination to do well.

But it’s not just monetarily that he provides for us.  He also provides for us spiritually by leading us into deeper communion with the Lord.  He provides for us emotionally with his strength and tenderness.  He provides for us physically by encouraging healthy sleeping, eating, and fitness habits [and also the occasional indulgence. 🙂 ]

I am so very thankful for this provider for our family.

November Thankfulness Days 12 and 13 November 14, 2012

Filed under: November Thanks — kohlhardfacts @ 3:35 am

Well, apparently my MO is miss a day, post about 2 days, miss a day, post about 2 days.

Ah, well, whatever works!

Day 12, November 12

Today I am thankful for our young adults Bible Study and all of the wonderful people who are a part of it.

It felt so life giving to be back in this group – to enjoy the community of it.

I love this group and the Biblical discussions we have, the conversations around the dinner table, the easy camaraderie, the way we can challenge each other, push each other to deeper levels, the genuine care that I see for one another.

I am thankful that we are able to be a part of this group once again.

Day 13, November 13

Can I be thankful for sleep twice?  No, oh ok then… [You can tell what I’ve been in need of lately.]

I’m thankful for the beauty of nature.

I am thankful for the way it reflects a bit of the Beauty of the Father.  I am thankful for the beautiful snow that fell yesterday, the huge flakes gently floating down, the way they glistened on the tree limbs and blades of grass.  I’m thankful for the beauty of the sun and the warmth and light it brings.  I am thankful for the colorful leaves still clinging to the last few trees of the season.

I am thankful for the diversity of nature, the beaches and oceans, the fields of corn, the Red Wood Forest, the desert, and my favorite – the mountains….

Thankful Days 10 and 11 November 12, 2012

Filed under: November Thanks — kohlhardfacts @ 4:19 am

Well, yesterday was moving day and then we had a baby shower for the newest addition to the Frodge family.  All in all a very good, but very tiring day.

Day 10, November 10

Oh so many things to be thankful for today!

One – or, well, two things I guess – I am thankful for today are our cars.  The Escape – aka Bumblebee – my car, my baby or the past 10 years.  She’s been with me through so much.  The college years, losing the keys and breaking out a window, all of the road trips, towing the boat, visiting a certain young man in Minnesota, moving back and forth to NY.

She has over 170,000 miles on her now…I got her when she had 30,000….That’s a lot of miles.

She’s certainly got her quirks now [the radio/CD player/tape player doesn’t work, the back gate lock broke, the key fab takes a little finesse to lock and unlock the doors, there’s a slice down the back bumper from a saw incident], but she’s still rolling strong.

And our van – my Mom Machine.  The one we got for such a great deal at a time when we very badly needed a second car…for a really great deal.  She’s not fancy, but she’s reliable.

Day 11, November 11

Veteran’s Day – I am so very thankful for the many men and women who have fought to protect our country and for their families who have sacrificed so much.

My Grandad [Mom’s dad] served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in WW2.

My Papaw [Dad’s dad] served in the U.S. Army during WW2.  [We have this great picture of him looking all handsome in his uniform.  Sadly, I cannot find it right now…and it’s once again after 11 p.m.  So I’m going to bed and will look for it again tomorrow.  If I find it, I will definitely share it.]

Thankful Days 8 and 9 November 10, 2012

Day 8, November 8

Today I am thankful that God created enjoyment – specifically sports.  And to be more specific, Colts’ football.

I love the simple pleasure and enjoyment that comes from watching a sporting event.

I love the way it draws me in – the way I feel a part of it as I cheer my boys on.

I love the way it becomes a part of us, becomes tradition, gets passed from one generation to the next.

I love the way it connects people – brings us together despite our differences.

When we were in NY, we met a couple from Baltimore who had been Colts fans since their days there.  Despite the fact that we had nothing else in common, there was an instant bond over our love for our team.

Day 9, November 9

Leo and Renee

Our dear friends.

They mean so much to us that it’s hard to narrow it down to one short blog post.

We’ve only known them for three years, but in that time we’ve been through more together than many friendships survive in a life time.

We’ve been through five moves, three states, two babies, one wedding, one road trip, thousands of papers written and books read, countless game nights, many loaves of meatloaf, ups, downs, tears, laughter, triumphs, heartbreaks, and adventures.

Through it all, our friendship has grown deeper, richer.  We’ve drawn closer to each other and closer to the Lord because of this friendship.

I am so thankful that we’ve been on this journey together.  I look forward to many more memories shared with this precious couple.

November Month of Thanks Days 6 and 7 November 9, 2012

Filed under: November Thanks — kohlhardfacts @ 4:42 am

Today has been rough – stressful and overwhelming.  It makes it tough to reflect on the thankfulness.  But those are the times it’s even more important to bring them into focus – to set my sights on the blessings rather than the frustrations.

So…

Day 6, November 6

Election day…

I am thankful for the women [and men too] who stood up for my right to vote.  Those who said that a woman’s voice is just as legitimate – and needed – as a man’s voice.

Women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, and of course Susan B. Anthony.

I am grateful that these women saw the importance of making their voices heard and worked hard to make sure that right was passed on to me, to my daughters.

Day 7, November 7

Clothes!  I am so thankful that we are able to clothe our family.

As I began packing away our clothes in preparation for the move there were moments when I was just so frustrated and exhausted by the amount of time it took me to sort, fold, and pack away all. those. clothes.

Then it hit me – I am so blessed to have these clothes.  To be able to afford to splurge from time to time on the new stuff.  To have clothes to pass down from when V was a baby that L is now wearing.  To have clothes handed down from cousins and friends.  To have so many loved ones who have blessed us with clothes as gifts.

I am thankful for the 3 suitcases, 3 tubs, and 4 boxes full of blessings – even when it takes me 5 hours to sort, fold, and pack it all.

Days 4 and 5 November 8, 2012

Day 4, November 4

My baby girls.

Oh those girls.

I absolutely adore being their Mama.  They bring such joy and adventure to daily life.

I love watching them learn and explore and discover beauty in the every day.  Some days I have to remind myself of this a bit more than others.  🙂

Day 5, November 5

Sleep!

Is that a silly thing to be thankful for?

Maybe….

But I love sleep!  I love when I sleep.  I love when the girls sleep.

It’s so beautifully restorative.  And peaceful.  And energizing.

I mean, seriously, what’s not to love about sleep.

Plus have you seen how precious babies look when they sleep?!

Can you tell which is V and which is L?

Ok, I know I was going to do three days today.  However, the day got away from me with all of the packing and such, and now it’s 11 p.m., and I need to partake of the goodness of sleep!  Tomorrow I’ll do days 6, 7, and 8.

30 Days of Thanks November 6, 2012

Filed under: November Thanks — kohlhardfacts @ 10:42 pm

I’m jumping on the band wagon – because I think this is a band wagon worth joining.  🙂

I firmly believe that it is important to give thanks to the Lord on a daily basis for the good gifts He gives us.  I make it a point to put this in to practice and to teach my children to do the same.

That being said, I think it is equally worthwhile to spend concentrated, focused time thinking about and sharing the things for which I am thankful.

So here I am, spending the month of November sharing my thankfulness with all of you.  I hope it helps you reflect upon the things in your life that mean so much to you.
Since I’m starting this a couple of days late, I’m going to do days 1-3 today, 4-6 tomorrow, and 7&8 the next day.

Day 1, November 1

My wonderful husband.  I love walking hand in hand with him in the adventure of life.  I love seeing his adorable smile reflected in our baby girl’s smile.  I adore watching him love on, teach, and train up our girls.  His strength and patience in loving me, leading me, leading our family as Christ leads him is a true treasure.

Day 2, November 2

My beautiful Mother.  November 2nd was her birthday, and I am so very glad she was born 60 an undisclosed number of years ago.  Growing up she was the model for me of a godly woman – one who loves God, her husband, her children, and all those around her.  She taught me what it means to be servant hearted. She also taught me what it means to humble yourself, to apologize when you’ve messed up, to seek restoration for broken relationships.  I am grateful beyond measure to call her my mom – and so very blessed each and every time I hear my girls call her “Nana.”

Day 3, November 3

Technology.  I am very very grateful for technology.  With my mother-in-law and father-in-law in Minnesota, my brother in Colorado, C’s brothers in Minnesota and Georgia, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and cherished friends scattered across the country and across the globe – I am extremely thankful for the way technology makes it so easy to stay connected – to hear their voices, see their faces, share pictures and videos.  Of course it’s not exactly the same as being together in person.  But fifty years ago, this kind of interaction and ability to connect over such distance.
